Most candle boxes are printed one of two ways. Offset printing gives the most accurate color and the lowest unit cost on runs of 1,000 and up. Digital printing makes sense for 100 to 500 boxes, seasonal designs, and short reorders, with a slightly softer result on large solid colors. Both run CMYK, and both can add one or two Pantone (PMS) spot colors when a brand color has to match the label on the jar exactly. UV printing is available for high-gloss raised details on logos and graphics.
Finishes change how the box feels in the hand more than how it looks online, which is why we send a physical sample before a full run. For votives, tealights and travel tins, 14pt board is enough. For 8–12 oz jars in a tuck box use 18pt; the extra stiffness matters once the box is carrying a pound of glass and wax. For three-wick tumblers, gift sets or anything sold at a premium, move to a rigid box on 1.5–2 mm greyboard with an insert. If you are unsure, tell us the vessel weight and we will recommend the stock.
Any glass vessel that will be shipped needs one. A die-cut board insert is the standard for tuck boxes and costs the least. Foam inserts are used in rigid gift boxes where the candle should sit centred and lift out cleanly. Moulded pulp is the choice when the whole pack must be curbside-recyclable. Candles that are only sold over the counter, and tins, usually do not need one.
Tuck, sleeve, gable and mailer styles ship flat and fold in a few seconds without glue or tape. Two-piece rigid boxes ship assembled, which is why they cost more to freight and store; plan shelf space before ordering a large run. Inserts ship flat with the boxes.
