Made Medal Packaging Feel Like a Treasure Chest for Recipients

David S. Ball, an event organizer, approached OXO Packaging to make bespoke presentation enclosures for presenting extremely rare and prestigious medals. He wanted premium boxes for the 12th International Philatelic Exhibition 2026. 

This was our first project with the brand. And his brief was for a refined, tactile box that felt extraordinary, premium yet quiet luxury.

David Didn’t Know What He Wanted

Though David was sure he wanted a thoughtful packaging box to turn his award presentation into a ceremonial one. But he was not aware of the material quality or texture, rather than the overt branding.

His only motive was to present medals as a way of expressing appreciation for winners over the years. But he emphasized customizing his medal boxes that felt luxurious and intentional. That’s where our customer sales representative, James Gray, stepped in as a “shining knight.”

Where Luxury Found Its Home

Once James understood David’s desires and expectations for medal packaging, he immediately proposed a basic design philosophy to match the prestige of the medal itself. Where custom rigid boxes served as a gold standard for elegance. 

James ensured that the medals have a solid, weighty, and premium feel by choosing dense and non-bending rigid material. He also went a step ahead of David by designing award boxes with elegant opening styles, such as magnetic closures or lift-off lids. The purpose of this style was to allow slow, controlled opening, boosting user experience. 

Gave His Awards Royal Treatment They Deserved

Since medals convey luxury, importance, and prestige, James recommended that David preserve the same essence with a modern and luxurious approach. For this approach, he instructed the box manufacturers to use matte and velvety textures on the exterior. 

With velvet and satin lining, rigid boxes felt classic and traditional, making them perfect for presenting medals. We also did a soft interior coating to cradle the delicate medal perfectly. 

Elegance That Retained Its Shape

Because David's medals were made of heavy, delicate materials like polished metal, we chose robust walls and custom-fitted velvet inserts to protect them like an ironclad shield against rusting and contamination.
